The Lehighton Area School District (LASD) decided to implement a new primary elementary center for the first time since the 1950s that would house all of the district's kindergarten through fifth grade students onto the existing high school campus. The LASD previously had four different elementary schools operating before the completion of the newly designed two-story, 166,200 sq. ft. modernized education facility.

 

The core is centrally located in the elementary center which includes a PIAA regulation size gym with full locker rooms and spectator area, performing arts stage, and cafeteria to host the districts K-12 events.

 

Gatter & Diehl was contracted to develop the elementary center with the latest MEP/FP system designs and commissioning expertise. System designs included a centralized water to water heat pump HVAC system and an electrical design with daylight harvesting controls. The LASD embraced the USGBC LEED program to assist in attaining their high standards for the project.
